National Vietnam War Veterans Day (March 29) is recognized by the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (VHP) as a key time to honor veterans who served from 1955-1975. VHP archives over 25,000 personal narratives—including audio/video interviews, letters, and diaries—from Vietnam veterans, ensuring their stories are preserved.

Key Aspects of the VHP for Vietnam Veterans:

  • Purpose: To collect and preserve personal, first-hand accounts of service to ensure future generations understand the realities of the Vietnam War.

  • Submission Details: VHP welcomes oral history interviews, photographs, diaries, and original letters from those who served in Vietnam.

  • Accessing Collections: The public can explore thousands of digitized stories, including oral histories and memoirs, through the VHP website's curated "Serving Our Voices" collection.

  • Participation: Vietnam veterans or their families can submit materials. The project encourages people to interview veterans aged 15 or older.

  • Digital Collections: The Library of Congress continuously highlights collections, with special focus on the 50th commemoration of the war.

  • Below is our Commander’s contribution to the project.
